On May 12, 2022 (Thursday) at 17:30 Dobrich Art Gallery presents “The Poster” exhibition by Lyudmil Chekhlarov. At the end of 2021 the gallery received a donation from Prof. Chehlarov of over 150 author’s posters and 233 posters in circulation, post-stamps projects and trademarks – private archive of the author, presenting his work from the 70s of the XX century to the present day. A large part of the donation will be shown in two halls of the gallery for the current exhibition.
Lyudmil Chehlarov was born in Dobrich. He graduated from the National Academy of Arts, majoring in Poster in Prof. Alexander Poplilov class. He started working as a poster artist at the State Satirical Theater. The posters he created there for several decades form his unique and recognizable visual style. Since 1991 he has been an associate professor at the National Academy of Arts and taught in Poster and Visual Communication until 1998, when he held the position of “Professor” in Advertising Design at the Academy until his retirement in 2008. He is among the notable teachers who set the direction of the applied graphics development for decades. Lyudmil Chehlarov is one of the influential poster artists with a significant contribution to the formation of standards and trends in stage poster in Bulgaria. Together with his colleagues he is an initiator of the triennial of theatrical posters.
The exhibition is part of the European Night of the museums May 14th 2022 (Saturday) from 08:00 to 23:00.
