On July 25, 2024 (Thursday), Dobrich Art Gallery presents an exhibition of Boris Denev’s drawings, part of the Veliko Tarnovo Art Gallery fund. The exposition comprises the artist’s military-themed works from the period of the First World War. The main line in Boris Denev’s wartime work is the everyday life of the ordinary soldier at the frontline, the moments of calm between the battles, deprivations and adversities, the time when the man in the overcoat is left alone with his thoughts and fears.
About Boris Denev’s military-documentary drawings, Dr. Martin Mitev, Director of Veliko Tarnovo Art Gallery, writes: “Psychologism, that in-depth depiction of mental experiences, refers the viewer to the thought of the “Bulgarian soldier”, to the watchful eye and the sealed memory of the moments of the horror experienced by the war. With extraordinary psychological depth, Denev actually expresses at a glance the conflicting feelings that move every soldier in the moments of calm between two battles.’
