The anniversary exhibition “The teachers and the students” of “Textile – art and design” Department of NFAA drew interest long before the official opening at 5:00 p.m. During the impromptu press conference at 11:00 a.m. the visiting lecturers Prof. Dr. Adelina Popnedeleva, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Verzhinia Markarova and Dr. Tsveta Yavasheva answered the questions of the journalists and presented the participants and the works in the exhibition. The first who visited the halls of Dobrich Art Gallery were the students from “St. Kliment Ohridski ” school who got acquainted with the exhibited works and subsequently a textile workshop was held. The special lesson began with a short presentation by Tsveta Yavasheva about the felting origin, specifics and techniques. During the practical training the students worked with non-spun wool and tried to create their own small panels with the technique of wet felting, supported and guided by the teachers from the National Academy of Arts.
The exhibition consists of two parts – of the teachers and co-founders of the modern textile department at the National Academy of Arts, whose works are arranged in Hall 2 of the gallery, and of the students of the of “Textile – Art and Design” Department, whose artworks are created since 2010. in Hall 1. The exposition contains 34 artworks uniting both traditional techniques combined with innovative approach and creative search, and unusual textile applications, deconstruction, ecological messages, play with symbols and modern technologies. The paper – an emblematic material for Dobrich art gallery – once again is a connecting element, as some of the teachers are among the participants in the first exhibition and the first plein air “The Paper” more than 25 years ago, initiated by our gallery. It is also present in some of the exhibited works as a proof of the unlimited abilities of the creative imagination.
In the exhibition you can see woven wall carpets, collages, embroidery, plastics, installations, prints, felt in saturated colors and various plastic forms showing the development of artists during the last 60 years since the establishment of the department in its contemporary form.
Several boards present the historical path of this branch in the National Academy of Arts, which became part of art education in Bulgaria only 2 years after the establishment of the State School of Drawing in 1896.
The exhibition will run until April 21, 2022.
