He is awarded with a big number of prizes and diplomas, such as Ist Award for advertising photography of the National competition in Smolyan 1986.
The “Volcano” exhibition of Varna photograph AlexandEr Nikolov presents portraits of “Volcano” circle artists, interiors of their ateliers and general plans in 152 black-and-white pictures. The photographs are made in the beginning of 1990s when “Volcano” exists as a complex of art ateliers where work graphic artists, painters, sculptors, applied arts artists and performers. There have been two printing bases – for gravure and letterpress printing, ateliers for monumental arts, for ceramics, industrial design, posters, professional ateliers for wood and metal, bookbinding studio, etc. As a gathering of talented artists “Volcano” is a society of fellows and a space for artistic freedom. The exhibition manifests the phenomenon “Volcano” in its’ iconicity. The power of photo image tears the time and actualizes the idea of “Volcano” with a new visual presence even when the building has ceased to exist. In 1991 the owners of the former factory filed claims for restitution of the plot, which predetermines its fate.
