On Aug 21st the Dobrich gallery invites You to the opening of a retrospective exhibition of the Dobrudzha painter Christo Gospodinov /Pechkata/. Different pieces of art – graphics, ceramics, projects of the decorative-monumental plastic art and wall paintings will be delivered as well as works from the earliest years of his artistic life. The exposition also contains more than twenty ceramics made for France which haven’t been shown before -  graphics implemented in various classical techniques and photos from the personal painter’s archive.

Christo Gospodinov was born on 06.05.1945 in Krayshte village, Dobrich region. In 1972 he graduated the Art Academy – Sofia in applied graphic under prof. Al. Poplilov. After specializing for a short time in Poland he came back to Bulgaria and was appointed a chief painter of Dobrich. He worked very close with the town planning councils where the concept of “a center without cars” was created. After the realization of the pedestrian zone in 1972 Dobrich became one of the towns with a new design of the horizontal planning. Within ten years he was a chairman of “The Young Artistic and Creative Intelligentsia” club. He worked hard and equally successfully in all aspects of art – painting, graphics, sculpture, applied arts. He became one of the founders of Rotary club in Dobrich. Many places of visit in the town decorated by Christo Gospodinov remind us about him – the Organ hall with its two mural paintings made in wet fresco technique, the three murals in the “P. R. Slavejkov” Secondary school, the wall paintings depicting scenes of  the life and battles of Bulgarians in “Ivan Vazov” Professional Mathematic School, the tapestry and  metal-plastic “Fire” in the Ritual hall, the decorative wall composition in hotel Bulgaria in Dobrich.

The painter had more than 15 solo expositions in Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Stara Zagora, Dobrich. Works of his were presented in Italy, France, Russia. He created over 50 decorative-monumental works – frescos, ceramics, mosaics, plastics, tapestries.

In the beginning of 90s Christo Gospodinov and Dimitar Grozdanov became the initiators of the Festival for Contemporary Art “Process – Space” which was held in Balchik for many years and was assisted  by the painter.

Dimitar Grozdanov, an art critic and a friend of the painter wrote about him: “Christo stretched his hands and  took all possible means for work – from  placard to engraving, from ceramics to plastics, after that to performance, in order to flood all his energy into only one aim where he couldn’t be wrong – to express himself in an idyllic atmosphere where only art and freedom for which he would have given everything existed”.

Christo Gospodinov passed away in 2003.
